When a new pope is elected, almost all media outlets provide coverage of the event. It is one of the most important events, although people seldom realize its importance.
Sources of Information
Most of us get our information about the new Pope from the major media outlets. We believe whatever the media outlets say about the new Pope, about whether we should be happy or sad about his election to the Papacy.
Is this how we ought to judge a Pope?
Do you suppose that media companies are run by people after the heart of Christ? Or are they run by people who are worldly and who hate Christ because His teachings run counter to their passions?
Why do you form your opinion about the Pope based on the opinions of people who hate Christ and His church? Why do you believe media companies and make their opinion as your own?
Friendship with God or with the world?
Christ said that:
If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world … therefore the world hates you [John 15:19]
St James says:
Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God [James 4:4]
We could also say that whoever is a friend of God makes himself an enemy of the world.
A rule of thumb
If the media is unhappy and angry about the election of the Pope, rejoice! It likely means that the Pope is a holy man who is close to the heart of Christ and who will lead others closer to Christ! Hence why the devil and his minions are furious about it.
“Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets”. [Luke 6:22]
“Woe to you, when all men speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets” [Luke 6:26]
